Going Places

There's pretty much nothing I love to wear more than dressed-up track shorts (here, in perforated leather) and light and airy blouses.  (If I had known that track shorts could be so cute, I might have taken up running a long time ago.  On second thought, probably not.)  Add a bold blue blazer for a pop of color and an eye-catching extra with this Botkier bag.  (How fun is the print on this bag?  Love!)  Finish with this heel-boot hybrid, snake-print sunnies, and a few black and gold jewels for a summer to fall transitional look that is just dying to hit the town.

Old Navy linen shorts (c/o);Aritzia tee (c/o); Old Navy chambray shirt (c/o); DV Dolce Vita sandals; Michael Kors bag; Forever 21 hat; Gorjana necklace and ring (c/o); Julie Vos cuff; Gorjana striped bangle; Michael Kors watch; C. Wonder leopard cuff; Ray-Ban sunglasses
I've never been much of a linen-wearer.  Overall it isn't that appealing to me, and the wrinkles give me a conniption.  This pair caught my eye though because the fit is super easy, and surprisingly, so is the bright coral-ish color.  As an added bonus, they're a linen-blend, which means they're really soft, and the wrinkles are slightly under control.  I guess these make me a linen convert.  (Next step?  Full-on linen leisure suit, a la Palm Springs retirement community.  Stay tuned.)  Additionally, I owe a certain chambray addiction to Old Navy, and this dark version above is the latest addition.  Worn open over an easy white tee, it's an ultra-lightweight summer staple that goes just as well with white skinnies or a printed maxi skirt.  Sandals and a couple of straw accessories completed the warm weather look.

With summer just kicking into full swing here, I'll definitely be scooping up a couple more pairs of these easy (and beyond affordable) shorts as part of my "August beat the heat" plan.  (This striped pair actually already made it home with me, and I'm thinking this printed pair ($10!) is next.)  Which summer shorts do you currently have your eye on?

T-Shirt Dress

I've probably mentioned it 457 times on the blog so far, but I love a good t-shirt dress for summer.  Dressed up or down, there's nothing easier or more comfortable in warm weather.  For a look that's a bit pulled together, pair a basic little navy version with gladiator-style leopard sandals and a structured leather satchel.  Finish with touches of tortoise-shell, a tasseled necklace, and classic gold pieces.  How would you wear this simple t-shirt dress?

Lily Necklace, Lela Cuff
As I mentioned in yesterday's post, this week I came across a great new jewelry line OK1984.  From bold gold chains to muted silver pieces, the hand-designed collection is full of versatile statement-makers, all made in Los Angeles.  The best part? The line is actually affordable.  (I dig a good high-end bauble as much as the next, but let's be real: a girl's gotta pay rent.)  Now, OK1984 is sweetening the deal with a little discount shopping incentive.  Enter code "MSD30" at checkout and receive 30% off site-wide.  (That means something like the Lily Necklace above will cost you around 16 bucks.  Score.)  Happy Friday, everyone, and happy shopping!

H&M blouse; Urban Outfitters shorts (old); Necessary Clothing booties; Romwe bag; OK1984 necklace and bangles (c/o); Karen London chain bracelet; Gorjana rings; Michael Kors watch; Ray-Ban sunglasses
There's pretty much nothing easier and more comfortable during the summer months than a super lightweight blouse with delicate lace shorts peeking out underneath.  It's pretty much my grab-and-go look when I've been standing in front of my closet "with nothing to wear" all morning.  A pair of booties and a few pieces of statement jewelry and I'm out the door.  And speaking of the jewelry, I have a new obsession.  Yesterday I came home to so many fun goodies from OK1984, and I must say, I'm in love.  The pieces are really great, and the prices are even better.  I immediately put on this Ella necklace, but I'm also loving all the tribal-inspired necklaces like this little gem.  Just what I need, a new jewelry site to stalk...

Summer Leather

Alright, so last week I may have mentioned that I limit the amount of black that I wear in the summer, but if it's a pair of black faux leather short shorts we're talking about, then I have to say it's fair game.  Paired with a novelty tee and cap-toe pumps, these are great for now and perfect for transitioning into fall.  Finish the look with modern extras: a white perforated clutch, standout sunnies, and statement-making geometric jewelry.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

Electrolytenment

Last week was just one of those weeks.  One of those weeks that feels like it should be over by the time Tuesday morning rolls around.  (One of those weeks that deserves a swift kick in the butt.  Ever had one of those?)  It's during the crazy busy weeks that I have to remind myself to slow down and take a few minutes to clear my head, and there's no better place to do it than at the beach.  There's something about the ocean that makes it easy to forget (at least temporarily) about a full inbox, clients that are less than agreeable, an overflowing laundry basket, and an abundance of other small annoyances.  Detaching for those few minutes can really turn my attitude around after a long day.

This week I'm teaming up with resource® Natural Spring Water (a 100% naturally sourced spring water with naturally occurring electrolytes and packaging made with 50% recycled plastic) to encourage you to find your "electrolytenment".  For me, it comes from watching a sunset at the beach, which I was lucky enough to enjoy last night.  From time to time, it also comes with a long bike-ride, a relaxing bath, or a Saturday afternoon with magazines on the couch.  How do you unwind, detach, and find your own "electrolytenment"?

True Religion jeans (c/o); Leith tee (c/o) Nordstrom; Matisse heels (c/o); Beirn bag; Ray-Ban Aviators; Karen London necklace and bracelet (c/o); Michael Kors watch; Gorjana rings
It's been a while since I've had a good pair of black skinny jeans, and I'd actually forgotten how much of a wardrobe staple they really are.  This pair is part of the Originals by True Religion collection, and they're the perfect balance of simple design and quality fabric that didn't stretch out after I'd worn them all day.  Seasonless and easily dressed up or down, I'm sure these skinnies will make appearances in about 400 future blog posts to come.  Hope everyone had a great weekend!

This dress is probably one of the best $14 purchases I've made.  It jumped off the Urban Outfitters sale rack and has been a complete summer staple for the past two years.  It's feather-weight, perfect for the hottest days, and the bright colors, although a little out of the ordinary for me, just have to make you smile.  (Actually, it's summer and it's Friday, and who's not smiling already?)  Paired with easy sandals and a fun, fringe bag, it's comfortable and easy.  Here's hoping everyone has a great Friday and an amazing weekend!

Ocean Inspiration

I'm not gonna lie, these days, I'd rather spend every second of every day laying by the beach, magazine in hand and toes in the sand.  Unfortunately, that type of behavior would probably leave me homeless and shoeless, so I'll stick with just pretending by bringing the ocean inspiration with me.  I love all the beautifully printed clutches by Samudra for a little beach action wherever you go, and worn with the breeziest t-shirt jumpsuit, it creates such a dressed-up vacation vibe.  Bold platforms, printed sunnies, and statement jewels up the glam factor for a supermodel-off-duty kind of thing, no?
