Today I'm sharing one final look from New York Fashion Week, and this particular morning was a hot one.  (From the looks of my friends' NYC Instagram snaps these days, I'd say I just missed out on some glorious fall weather on the East Coast.)  After running around New York for a few days, Kathleen dragged me out of bed early on Saturday morning, and easy jeans and a tank were pretty much all I could muster.  These coated, zippered skinnies are surprisingly so comfortable, and I know they will be in heavy rotation throughout the fall.  Staple leopard pumps, a sleek leather bag, and mirrored sunnies finished off the look.  Hope everyone is having a great week - it's almost Friday!

TheAugust issues of all of my favorite magazines were filled with denim, and I couldn't get enough.  Skinny, straight, boyfriend, wide leg, or in dresses, skirts and jackets, I love it all.  Inspired by the glossies, I definitely plan to work a little more denim on denim into my fall repertoire.  By choosing different washes (and in this case chambray) and keeping the rest of the look monochromatic, today's outfit is an easy update on classic staples.  I love how the strappy sandals dress up the otherwise casual feel, and the pastel bag is a definite new favorite carryall.  What are some of your favorite denim styles for fall?

Are you guys sick of these Free People shorts yet?  By now I've worn them about 100 times, but I can't help myself.  On the warmest days they're all I ever want to wear.  Today I'm remixing the vest from Monday's post with an old favorite tee and my trusty cutoffs for an easy, slightly nautical feel.  These gold flats were kind of an impulse buy in San Francisco, but I've since worn them a ton.  They're SO comfortable and pretty much go with anything.  I finished off the look with a bit of color: a bold Tory Burch bag and a new turquoise statement piece from 9th & Elm, a really cool site for handmade and independent designers that you might not find elsewhere.  I have a couple pieces from Kristin Perry, but this necklace was definitely a score on 9th & Elm.  I wore this look for a Friday afternoon bike ride and happy hour and really am in love with every piece.  What are some of your go-to items in your closet?

Last week was a pretty quiet one here on the blog, and for good reason.  I got to take a road trip up the California Coast with a couple of friends from home, and it was an amazing few days.  We made stops in Santa Barbara and Big Sur and spent our last couple of nights in San Francisco.  (You can check out a few more snaps from the road over on Instagram.)  I'd been to San Francisco before, but this time I definitely got to play tourist a bit, which is even more fun when you're with good friends.  We managed to make it to The Castro, the Haight-Ashbury area, the 16th Avenue Mosaic Steps (where we took the photos above), the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, and Union Square.  We stayed at the Galleria Park Hotel, and I'd definitely recommend it (and other joie de vivre Hotels in general) if you're headed to San Francisco.  The hotel was really nice, and the staff was more than helpful and accommodating.  Plus, a little "wine o'clock" every afternoon doesn't hurt.  It's amazing what a few days of travel, lots of laughs, and catching up with your best friend can do for your spirits.  I'm excited to be back and starting off this week feeling so refreshed.  Hope everyone has a great week!

Hands-down, my best purchase this summer has been these cutoffs from Free People.  They are my definite go-to pair, and I'm seriously considering scooping up another pair.  In the summertime, I'm a fan of pairing pretty much anything with denim shorts, so I love the dressed-up feel of adding a white blazer, wedges, and a ladylike bag.  Stacked gold jewelry and a red lip provide the finishing touches.  Hope everyone had a relaxing weekend!

Lately I've found myself really drawn to ladylike pieces that will add polish to a simple denim look.  I'm such a sucker for Equipment's butter-soft silk blouses, so when I find them at Marshalls, it's a no-brainer.  Paired with super skinnies and my recent Nordstrom finds, it's such an easy pulled-together look for summer.  Finish off with funky cateyes, a bright bracelet, and a bold red lip.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

Contrary to my beliefs of acceptable clothing just a few short years ago (I had a real thing against jorts, circa 2007), these days, if it's hot out (and sometimes even if it's not), you can find me in denim cutoffs.  Cut right, there's nothing more cool and comfortable for beating the heat than a pair of beat-up cutoffs.  This summer I've been l-i-v-i-n in these "Shark Bite" shorts from Free People, but today I'm joining in on a fun little Denim DIY campaign with Sauza to make my own.  Armed with a Sauza-rita and a little denim inspiration, it was actually really fun.

My favorite "jorts" look is easy and distressed, so I started with an old pair of boyfriend jeans that already had a bit of distressing.  Having one too many DIY projects like this turn into shorts that are too short to wear, I decided to cut them a bit longer and keep trimming off inch by inch until I liked the length.  It was tedious but worth it.  I also used my favorite pair for inseam comparison.  Because there's nothing worse than jorts that hug your legs, I cut slits in the outside seams and then ripped the slits a bit.  With every cut that I made, I pulled at the loose threads to create a fringe effect.  Overall I love the way that they came out and am thinking I may hit up the local thrift store for more jeans to convert.  For a little extra inspiration, check out the "Make Jorts With A Cowboy" video below.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

Ever think you could make jorts with a cowboy? Here's your chance to meet a man who crafts his heart out. Okay, so maybe he's not the best DIY-er. But what he lacks in cutting skills, he more than makes up for when he makes the perfect Sauza-rita. Watch him in action for ideas for your next ladies' night in: http://bit.ly/1juaLln.

Because one can never have too many comfy track pants (right?), I just couldn't resist this denim pair from Gentle Fawn.  I love the easy fit and stud detailing along the pockets.  These will go with so many pieces in my closet, but I love the updated sportswear feel of pairing them with a printed sweatshirt.  A blush handbag and mirrored aviators add a bit of color to complete the look.  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

There's probably nothing more excessive in my wardrobe (besides fun costume jewelry I suppose) than scarves, and for good reason.  Even in the dead of summer here, it can get pretty chilly at night, and an oversized scarf is the perfect accessory to help keep warm without looking too wintery.  My motto with scarves is "the bigger the better", and this one from Theodora & Callum is huge.  It easily doubles as a swimsuit coverup, and in fact, on their website, you can find dozens of seriously cute #waystowear these.  It's the perfect summer accessory to throw in your suitcase or beach bag for any upcoming summer travel.  Today I'm pairing the neutral accessory with muted skinnies and an easy white tank for a low-key and comfortable look.  What are some of your go-to summer accessories?

H&M sweater;  Free People "Shark Bite" shorts;  BDG plaid (serious favorite);  DV by Dolce Vita booties (on sale!);  Scala hat;  Ray-Ban sunglasses;  Jane Basch necklace
Today I'm rejoining the real world after a few beautiful days traveling California's coast with my family.  We spent two nights in Big Sur which is one of my favorite places in the world because you can disconnect and just enjoy the beauty around you.  We snapped these pictures on the way out to Pfeiffer Beach (which turned out to be WAY too cold and windy for us).  I pretty much lived in these Free People shorts and DV booties the entire trip, and I picked up this hat in our hotel gift shop.  A lightweight sweater (last seen here as a dress) was the perfect windy-day topper.  Overall it was an amazing trip, and I'll be sharing a few more snaps tomorrow.  Stay tuned!
