Inspired by a recent night (ahem, or 2...in a row) at the Orange County Fair, we figured we'd put together an outfit for all of the other fair-goers and end of summer music festival attendees out there. This day-to-night ruffled, ribbon-trimmed, bohemian tunic/dress/shirt is perfect for so many occasions, and these barely-there denim cut-offs will prepare you for any gust of wind or daring fair ride. Over-the-knee socks paired with flat leather boots create a low-key pre-fall statement. Complete the look with a bold handbag and understated jewelry pieces. Whether you plan on taking in a concert, riding a few carnival rides or simply enjoying the sights and sounds, you'll be comfortable and chic all night long. xoxo P.S. Check out today's Inspiration! If your weekend at the beach turns into a week battling sunburn, choose comfortable pieces that come together seamlessly. This Riller & Fount oversized tunic (belted only in front through the sleeves) over lighter-than-air lace shorts is just the answer. Rhinestone-embellished sandals and statement jewelry dress the look up for an easy bohemian feel.
xoxo Dear Diary, Bike riding is picking up in my area. I love taking a leisurely spin around town, but I never know what to wear! My bike (is) the biggest "accessory" to my outfit: it has an old school look, a white basket, and even a tiny bell! I want my outfit to look cute but also at least a little functional. What should I wear when I take my bike for a cruise around town? - Lindsey Dear Lindsey, I totally understand. I've spent the majority of many recent weekends pretty much exclusively on a bike, and I have a very similar goal: I want to be comfortable and chic without flashing the world. (And it can be harder than it sounds.) Your best bet is to choose roomy shorts, whether you prefer feminine lace or relaxed denim. Pick easy flats, minimal accessories and a hands-free messenger for a laidback feel. (Save room in your white basket for found treasures along the way.) Wishing you a stylish bike ride this weekend! xoxo P.S. Check out today's Inspiration! 3. Threadsence Feather Necklace/Headband, $9 6. Steve Madden Serenitl Sandal $70 7. Dear Diary, I want a cute maxi skirt, and the (Topshop version) from your previous post is now out of stock. I'd like to find one for $50 or under that I can wear with brown wedges. I'm not a fan of the floral prints though. Let me know if you can help me find one! - Stephanie Dear Stephanie, Great question! Maxi skirts are seriously everywhere this year, so finding one that fits your style and budget is definitely possible. Above, our top six (non-floral, under $50) maxi skirts this summer. Now, if you change your mind about the non-floral part, check out yesterday's post for some great options, and if you should decide to bend your budget a little, we're loving this solid (ahem, $92) version by MINKPINK. We hope this helps! xoxo Get the Look!1. Loveappella Knit Maxi Skirt $50 4. Express Maxi Skirt $40 (Available in many colors) 6. ASOS Chiffon Maxi, $47
Forever 21 skirt and top, BCBGMAXAZRIA clutch, Matt Bernson gladiator, Michael Kors Watch, Bijouterie Wood Bracelet, Alex & Ani Gold Bangles, Andara Necklace This weekend we grabbed breakfast at Tart in Los Angeles where we feasted on their morning biscuit sandwich with a side of cheese grits - a Southerner's delight! (Seriously, have you been here? It'll make your morning.) Anyway...This lightweight floral maxi skirt and crochet tank were perfect for the warm LA weather. Piles of bracelets (per the usual) and a recently rediscovered BCBG denim clutch completed the easy ensemble. xoxo P.S. Check out today's Inspiration! Printed Maxi Skirts at Any Price!
Dear Diary, It's my 24th birthday next Wednesday, and I am throwing a bowling party. I want to dress up for my special day but still be comfortable enough to throw some strikes and impress a special someone. ;) I would love for any styling ideas you may have for me. Thanks a ton! P.S. I love your blog! - Jessyca Dear Jessyca, What a fun way to celebrate your 24th! With all the moving that you will be doing bowling (not to mention the celebratory flaunting after you throw those strikes), we think a flirty romper or dressed-up shorts ensemble is best. Though you'll spend your night in rented shoes (don't forget socks!), there's no harm in making your grand entrance in sky-high wedges, right? Pile on fun bangles and this to-die-for spike ring (probably on the hand that you will not be bowling with), and you're sure to turn the head of that "special someone". Grab a small clutch for all your essentials, and you're set for your big day. We hope you have an amazing birthday! xoxo Get the Look!2. Rebecca Minkoff Mini M.A.C. Clutch $195 3. The night turned into an impromptu photo shoot. It was a cool LA night, so I chose a summer romper and added boots and a lightweight cardigan. What do you think about this museum night look?

Hot Colors: Orange and Red
Designers such as Burberry Porsum and Stella McCartney sent looks down the runway in vibrant color ways normally reserved for the spring and summer months. Incorporate these hues into your fall wardrobe by choosing one statement piece (such as the orange coat above) or by combining several shades together (as shown in the head to toe red look above). If bright colors normally are not for you, ease into this trend with a bold handbag or accent scarf paired with autumn neutrals or black. Animal Instincts: Python Python printed clothing and accessories made their way to many runways this season in various hues and textures. If you're daring, try out this print in a coat or simple shift dress layered with other basics. For a milder version, test this trend with a python-printed handbag or bangles. Just beware, a head to toe look like the Missoni above should definitely be toned down for everyday wear. In Fur Effect A constant up and down trend, fur made a comeback in a big way last fall, and this year, it is still here to stay. Designers such as Michael Kors and Alexander McQueen sent fur looks down the runway for timid trendsetters and far-out fashionistas alike. Whether you go for a simple fur-trimmed collar or an all-fur hooded coat, this trend is definitely worth trying, and with so many designers debuting high quality faux furs, your investment piece doesn't have to break the bank. Menswear: It's Not Just for the Boys Menswear is definitely another trend that constantly makes its way in and out of fashion. For fall 2011, choose masculine silhouettes such as padded shoulders, large lapels and slouchy pantsuits in soft, muted neutrals for a slight feminine touch. Styles like the YSL and Stella McCartney looks above are easy to incorporate into most wardrobes and are available in any price range.Fall FloralsFloral prints are not just for spring anymore, but this fall, choose large floral patterns in subdued colors for a look that is right on trend. Test the waters with a floral dress or blouse, or charge full steam ahead with a vintage-inspired coat like the Jil Sander look above. Other Micro Trends Fringe, metallics, leather and colorbocking are all micro trends that were hot for spring and are being carried over into the fall. Give your spring pieces more mileage by pairing them with fall basics. For example, warm up a metallic mini with tights and a chunky sweater; carry your favorite fringe handbag through the winter; add leather to any ensemble for an instant update; or choose autumn pieces in standout, various colors for a colorblocked effect. However you decide to mix, match and experiment with this fall's trends, be sure to have a little fun. |
