Living so close to the beach, I've always got my beach bag packed and ready. This Vera Bradley bag is my current go-to because it's so lightweight and easy, the perfect size for a towel, a couple of magazines, and my hoards of sunblock. These days, I don't mess around with sunblock: I like high SPF and lots of it. For staying cool and refreshed at the beach, a headband and hair tie combo keeps my hair off my face, and a Bottled Starbucks® Iced Coffee (cold as ice out of the freezer) is a nice little pick-me-up. Ann Taylor scarf; Clava bag; Marc by Marc Jacobs laptop sleeve; Whish Deodorant Swipes; Justin's Honey Peanut Butter; Emi-Jay hair tie; Forever 21 sunglasses; NARS Velvet Matte Pencil in Dragon Girl; COVERGIRL TruMagic The Perfector; bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Live It Up; Bottled Starbucks® Iced Coffee; Mario Badescu facial spray For work on the go, I pretty much never leave home without my laptop, and this Clava bag is the perfect size for toting it, along with my other essentials, around. I like to keep a scarf with me for colder office buildings, and red lipstick is great for changing up my look mid-day. These Whish Deodorant Swipes are amazing for an on-the-go refresh, and the Mario Badescu facial spray is so cooling (I bring it with me everywhere). Bottled Starbucks® Iced Coffee and a packet of Justin's peanut butter is the perfect 3:00 snack. Sperry Top-Sider sandals (c/o) Contrary to my beliefs of acceptable clothing just a few short years ago (I had a real thing against jorts, circa 2007), these days, if it's hot out (and sometimes even if it's not), you can find me in denim cutoffs. Cut right, there's nothing more cool and comfortable for beating the heat than a pair of beat-up cutoffs. This summer I've been l-i-v-i-n in these "Shark Bite" shorts from Free People, but today I'm joining in on a fun little Denim DIY campaign with Sauza to make my own. Armed with a Sauza-rita and a little denim inspiration, it was actually really fun. My favorite "jorts" look is easy and distressed, so I started with an old pair of boyfriend jeans that already had a bit of distressing. Having one too many DIY projects like this turn into shorts that are too short to wear, I decided to cut them a bit longer and keep trimming off inch by inch until I liked the length. It was tedious but worth it. I also used my favorite pair for inseam comparison. Because there's nothing worse than jorts that hug your legs, I cut slits in the outside seams and then ripped the slits a bit. With every cut that I made, I pulled at the loose threads to create a fringe effect. Overall I love the way that they came out and am thinking I may hit up the local thrift store for more jeans to convert. For a little extra inspiration, check out the "Make Jorts With A Cowboy" video below. Hope everyone is having a great week! xoxo Ever think you could make jorts with a cowboy? Here's your chance to meet a man who crafts his heart out. Okay, so maybe he's not the best DIY-er. But what he lacks in cutting skills, he more than makes up for when he makes the perfect Sauza-rita. Watch him in action for ideas for your next ladies' night in: http://bit.ly/1juaLln. Forever 21 blouse (on sale!); Blazer via Nasty Gal (also love the black version); Forever 21 clutch (love this one); heels (c/o) Lulu's Phew, this long weekend was really one for the books. We celebrated the Fourth of July with family, friends, a margarita or two, and way too much BBQ. There's really no prouder time to be an American, and we got to chat with a few Australian visitors about how amazed they were at everyone's enthusiasm for the day. We spent Saturday recovering by a pool, and yesterday we roamed around Laguna Beach for the day doing a little shopping and sightseeing. I picked up these floral shorts at a tourist-y stop for about $12, and they are so me for summer. I decided to do a little day-to-night styling with them and could pretty much live in these looks. A breezy blouse works for both, and a lightweight blazer is the perfect topper for nighttime. Switch from sandals to heels, and voila! Hope everyone had an amazing 4th and relaxing weekend! xoxo Henri Bendel bag; Free People shorts; LOFT tank (similar); True & Co. bra; DV Dolce Vita sandals (similar) I first discovered my love of True & Co. about a year ago, and it's been a go-to ever since. If you haven't already checked out the site, the basis is pretty (ingeniously) simple. You take a short quiz about the bras in your life: what you like, what you hate, the brands you love, the size that you think you are, etc. Prompted by your answers, True & Co.'s experts will choose two bras for you to try, and you choose the other three. The bras arrive at your doorstep so that you can try them on in the comfort of your own home; you keep what you like, send back what you don't. It's an idea that I love and a company that I trust. I always recommend True & Co. to friends and genuinely believe that it's the easiest that bra shopping can be.
True & Co.'s latest collection to launch is Uniform, a line of "live-in luxury basics" that is just as pretty and girly as it is comfortable, and that's something that anyone can love. A full line of bras, undies, and loungewear, Uniform is reasonably priced with everything under $50 and will instantly add a little luxe to your everyday. If you've taken the initial fit quiz, True & Co.'s website will actually steer you towards the pieces and sizes that are best for you. I recently took the "Unlined Triangle" for a spin, and this comfortable little number is definitely now a part of my summer uniform. If you're on the hunt for new bras (or maybe even if you aren't), I'd definitely recommend checking out the selection and expertise from True & Co. Wishing everyone an amazing Fourth of July and a relaxing long weekend. xoxo Photos by Hadasa Aqua romper; DV Dolce Vita heels (old); vintage belt; Ray-Ban sunglasses; clutch via T.J.Maxx; Samantha Wills ring; Henri Bendel bracelet; Michael Kors watch Like a little black dress but a little bit better, this silky romper is the perfect pick for a summer night out. The long sleeves are ideal for the chilly evenings of early summer here, and I love the ruffle detail on the shorts. A gladiator heel, gold accessories, and a couple of pops of red finish off the easy look. Hope everyone is having a great week!
xoxo Since moving down to Newport a couple of years ago, the week of the 4th of July has definitely become one of my favorite weeks of the year. There's a definite excitement in the air around here, and red, white, and blue touches can be seen pretty much everywhere. Bikes are being prepared, BBQ's are readied, and there's a genuine happiness in people despite the lingering June Gloom weather. We live in an area with a lot of weekly beach house rentals, so right about now is when all the families are arriving, ready for their 4th at the beach. Although I haven't quite picked out my look for the 4th yet, above are a few pieces I definitely would like to get my hands on. These simple swimsuits by Becca are my hands-down favorite and have been for a couple of years because the triangle tops are cut just a bit bigger. (If you're like me and have somewhat hard-to-fit curves, I'd definitely recommend giving these a shot.) These seersucker shorts are about the cutest things I've seen, and topped with an easy tank and a plaid tied around the waist, they're an easy Americana staple. Finish things off with fun accessories, gladiator sandals, and a chic beach bag that'll hold everything. Here's wishing everyone an amazing "Fourth Week"! xoxo Get the Look! 1. For me, summer is all about letting loose, taking a trip or two, and spending as much time as possible at the beach. Lucky for me, I live only a couple blocks in from the ocean in Newport Beach, California. I really am so fortunate to be able to step out of my front door and take a three-minute walk to the beach, and I try to take advantage of it as much as I can. I keep my beach bag packed and ready to go so that anytime I get a couple of free hours, my toes are in the sand. My summertime essentials definitely include tons of sunblock, a favorite swimsuit, and smooth legs. Whether I'm headed for the beach down the street or packing for someplace tropical, nothing brings me down like discovering I forgot to shave. (After all these years, how it's possible to still forget, I have no clue, but I do know that fuzzy gams aren't my favorite beach accessory.) Although I've never really been into the whole waxing thing, this week I checked out Veet's Ready-To-Use Wax Strips for legs and body, and I must say I am impressed. The process is really easy (simply warm the strips by rubbing your hands together, peal, stick, rip - you know the drill), and the results last up to 28 days. Seriously - 28 days. Kiss that accidental fuzz goodbye, and forget about packing a razor for your next beach getaway because it's the Summer of Smooth, people! What would you do if you had 28 days of freedom? xoxo Veet® helps you feel smooth all summer long. There's nothing like the feeling of freedom that summer brings. https://www.facebook.com/veet “Disclosure: Compensation was provided by Reckitt Benckiser via MODE Media. Photos thanks to Taylor Cole Photography All clothing and accessories (c/o) Forever 21 Sometimes there's nothing quite like a brand new outfit, and it's even better when you feel like you got a great deal. I'm constantly on the search for brands and stores that offer great style for a great price, so I'm really excited to team up with one of my favorite bloggers Love, Olia for a little shopping fun and a style challenge. I met Olia last year during the Nordstrom YOUphoria campaign and event down in San Diego. She's a fellow Southern California blogger who shares in a lot of the same joys and frustrations as a blogger, and she's just downright adorable. We're always bouncing around ideas and thought it would be fun to bring our readers a little budget-friendly fashion, and given the same amount to spend ($100), see how different (or similar) our looks turn out. We're partnering with brands and boutiques to bring you "Style Under $100", and first up on the list is a definite go-to of mine: Forever 21. In case you've been living under a large rock for a while, Forever 21 is the true definition of affordable fashion. With a selection that spans tons of clothing and maybe even more accessories at times all at prices to love, there's really an outfit for every occasion or mood for me. Armed with $100 to spend, this shopping challenge took forever because it was so hard to decide! I wrestled with a few bohemian looks for a while (and ended up buying a couple) before finally deciding on this high-neck little black dress. I love the sleek simplicity, and the accessorizing options are seriously endless. I'm a big fan of "flatform" sandals for summer, so I headed in a retro direction complete with cat-eye sunglasses, something I pretty much never do. (If you follow the blog, you may notice I've got a little thing for aviators. Well, a big thing.) Although it's an all-black look, the colorful sunglasses and luxe-looking jewelry really make a statement. (I mean, these rings!) While I went with a modern-meets-retro take, Olia went with a bohemian summer feel, and I've got some serious skirt envy. To check out her full look, head on over to Olia's blog for her "Style Under $100" point of view. Hope you guys enjoy! xoxo Photos thanks to Hadasa Zara dress; Forever 21 shorts; Jessica Simpson "Marah" wedge (c/o) Fatal Obsessions; Julie Vos necklace and cuff; Gorjana cuff and ring; Olivia + Joy bag; Ray-Ban sunglasses I swore I wouldn't do it. When I saw that mules were making a comeback, I turned my nose up and declared them "not for me". I've never been a fan of them, but then it happened. I found myself scrolling around Fatal Obsessions, oddly drawn to the enemy shoe, and I knew I had to try them. I love the strap details and two-tone look of the sides. I hate to admit it, but they go with so many things in my closet, and they're so easy to just slip on and go. I couldn't wait to wear them, and this breezy little white dress that I scooped up recently at Zara was the perfect companion. A simple black handbag, a few scattered gold accessories, and a bold red lip finished off the easy summer look. And just like that, my mule "thing" is gone, and I'm a convert. What's your verdict on the return of mules: yay, or nay?
xoxo P.S. - Please follow me over to the Pose Instagram account today where I'll be taking over and sharing a little fashion, food, and fun from Newport Beach, CA! It's such an easy summer look, and a bold handbag adds a needed pop of color. Hope everyone had a great weekend and an amazing first day of summer! xoxo |
